~~~ Westernization of the Indian Culture ~~~
January 30th, 2007Gone are those days when girls wearing Salwaar – Kameez went to Mandir-Gurudwaras . Now, they go to the Discos instead and that too being clad in skinny tops & Minis. Their Recipes have been replaced by Make-up Kits ; their Books by Valentine Cards ; their Subtle Culture by Bohemian Mannerism & the list goes on and on and on …
Boys spend their mornings in protests and strikes at the campus & evenings at the gyms and pubs. Their hard-disks have been infected with I Love You Virus . Chasing gals are their Academics Teasing them are their Co-curricular Activities & Running from the scene (when the Cops arrive) are their Extra- co-curricular activities . For them; Father is the Finance Minister and mother holds the Home Ministry . Home is the Rahen Basera (Night Shelter). They consider the Classroom as a Circus where a Ring Master (Teacher) tames many Lions (Students).
What a wonderful Routine they have!!!
Every relationship has suffered a setback. They measure the intensity of all the relationships in terms of Money Matters . The youths utter that the times have changed but the Sun still arises from the East and sets in the West. Still, an intoxicating aroma is produced when the drops of rain meet the soul of the Earth.
Man is a Social Animal . The teenagers are trying to contradict the same fact.
Only, the youth are not responsible for all this filthy culture. In this regard the Idiot Box (TV) bags the Gold Prize while the Cinema bags the Silver Prize. The Technology always helps the Internet and the MMS enabled Camera Phones are also struggling to get their Rankings higher in the Porn Sector. Lastly, the media is the prime culprit who has raised this tarred culture to the Sky. The youth and white papers take all the impressions. They forgot the names of their books but they clearly remember the brand of Cigarette which was in the Hero s Hands (AS SHOWN ON TV). There is A or U criterion for films but no Censure of Music Videos is done in which this Attire-less-Fashion is freely exhibited. In this case, the psyches of the gals are vandalized by these obscene videos.
Certain substantial steps should be taken to remove this filth. Firstly, the Censure Board should be endowed with more practical powers to screen the content of Films, TV, Press and the Internet. Secondly, the Rules should be so fabricated such that the offenders (in this case) should be strictly punished. Thirdly, the Media (Press) should take an Oath to stop the growth of this virus in our Indian Society.
Fourthly, we should respect our great Indian Culture and abide by it.
Before this Nightmare becomes a Cent- percent reality Wake Up Now!!!
I completely agree with you. Beautifully written article with thoughful and simple examples of what is going on with today’s youth. I think every youth being in a city or village can relate to what Gurpreet has said. Hats Off!! This is surely one of the best articles I have read of yours.
I specially liked this line : “The Technology always helps ? the Internet and the MMS enabled Camera Phones are also struggling to get their Rankings higher in the Porn Sector. ” ** A funny sarcasm on todays technology
I do agree that too much of exposure through television and internet is bringing in a degenerative westernization of our intrinsic culture and social values. We need to get alarmed by the extent in which this is progressing and do some thing about it…
Well, I share a different view on the “shift in culture”, and consequently do not agree to some of the text posted here. Soceity is defined by the ideas and beliefs of a group of people, needless to mention that the perspective of the majority is used to compose this definition. This said, it is purely up to every individual as to how they decide to express themselves.
